The mission of the Bioinformatics booth is to introduce prospective students and parents to an emerging interdisciplinary field that is focused on handling large datasets and computational problem solving, in order to address complex biological problems. Such outreach is valuable to the scientific community as a whole, because it advertises the accomplishments in the field, and the dedication of the scientists and engineers involved.

Informational materials and free giveaways regarding the City's Pure Water San Diego and water conservation programs will be distributed. We will either have an interactive activity that engages festival attendees to guess the difference between tap, recycled and purified water samples, or we will bring our "'Water' You Know?" jeopardy quiz board that asks fun questions that educate festival attendees of all ages about water.

Get closer to science! Guests will be able to explore ocean and earth science through conversation and hands-on activities! Join Birch Aquarium to discover some of the amazing things that go on below the surface of the ocean, on the beach, and sometimes in your own backyard.

The booth will contain hands-on interactive demonstrations highlighting applications of industrial hygiene principals.

Hands on Science Activity geared for large multi-age audience - TBD (In the past we have done UV/Fluorescence, Science of Shaving Cream Art, Science of Non-Newtonian Fluids) Due to our early registration, the activity hasn't been formally decided. However, we are familiar with the age range, and volume of attendees and have developed program activities suited for this venue and its STEM enthusiasts. Meet scientists from the Tijuana Estuary, discover wetland critters, play with a mudflat, see what kind of science wetland biologists do, and discover why wetlands are important for YOU and for wildlife.

Magnolia Science Academy is a STEAM-focused charter school serving 6th-8th grade students in San Diego. Our students experience STEAM every day in their classrooms and they are very excited to share this experience with the community. MSA Steam Ambassadors will share: - a variety of short, hands-on science demos. - explain the science behind each demonstrations. - help guests understand how STEAM is part of everyday life and accessible to all.

San Diego State University's School of Nursing is teaching the role of smoking and healthy lungs. Along with a healthy pair of lungs, comes a pig heart for prospectives to observe! We we also have information about the School of Nursing at SDSU and the proper steps to take to get into the program.

Activity side will be performing DNA extractions using wheat germ, information side will be providing handouts about Salk programs
