We will demonstrate psychological principles (primarily perception and cognition) through activities. Some of the activities will include a memory box (to demonstrate the limits of short term memory), visual illusions (checkerboard, Ponzo, Muller-Lyer, etc.), and inversion goggles (that turn vision upside down).

The Nat will bring out some fascinating specimens from our collection along with some intriguing naturalist games where participants can practice their scientific skills!

Micro:Bit Robot Rally Activity Description: Race, chase, and capture the flag with pocket-sized robots powered by Micro:bit! Kids steer with joysticks and see how coding turns ideas into real-world action. Orbit Lab Activity Description: Orbit Lab makes space science playful! Kids launch virtual rockets, experiment with gravity, and explore orbits — all while coding in Python. It’s physics, turned into a video game.

Students in the GSDSEF Student Leadership Board will do the following with children 5-15: 1) demonstrate cabbage juice colors with vinegar and ammonia 2) show them how to make their own paper whirly-helicopters 3) Make slime. Students in the 6th grade or higher will be given information about the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair.
