Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute

SBP will be very hands-on with experiments, showing what we do in the lab, yet on lay-friendly level. We will have things for kids and adults to look at (last year it was Virtual reality glasses and proteins, and C.elegans - tiny worms) and be interactive with our scientist volunteers. (exact experiments TBD) We will also apply temporary DNA tattoos, and give out little lab coats. We will make the science exciting and interesting for all!

San Diego Imperial Council BSA

Join the Illumina Foundation at Padres Petco Park in the Park as we help visitors to explore the power of genomics. The Illumina Games is a series of traditional games that represent the various parts of genetics including the history of identifying traits, polymerase chain reactions, and even making your own emoji! We will also have airbrush artists featuring science related tattoos for all ages and a Dress Like a Scientist photo booth! Kids and adults of all ages are encouraged to visit!

Creating Chemistry with BASF. BASF Kid's Lab Slime Factory. Kids get to make their own slime with the help of BASF scientists.

UC San Diego Bioinformatics & Systems Biology

Hands-on bioinformatics activity with legos or paper cards to show the structure of DNA/genes. Emphasis on reconstructing the genome. Participants will then draw a "monster" whose genome they have reconstructed from legos/paper after we explain to them how the reconstruction they did tells us which genes are present. UCSD Bioinformatics PhD students will be volunteers.
