National Park Service - Cabrillo National Monument

Festival participants will discover and learn about the science projects performed at Cabrillo National Monument with hands-on, inquiry-based activities that highlight our herpetofauna (reptile & amphibian) monitoring and Science Explorer's Club. Participants will take data about our native reptiles & amphibians as well as exploring other science themes (tidepool monitoring, bird monitoring, etc.).

Reptile Behavioral Training Demonstration

Many people believe that reptiles have primitive brains that are only capable of instinctive behavior. If you have ever interacted with a snake or lizard you know they are capable of much more than just instinctual behaviors. We will be answering many questions scientists are only just now posing about these fascinating, misunderstood and grossly underrated creatures! Then you will know the answers to: Are reptiles smart? Can they think and solve problems? Do they have feelings? and much more

Empower Students with STEAM Topics

"STEAM with 3D Modeling: Inspire Students' Career Pathways"

This online session will explore how you can nurture an interest in STEAM by using KOOV. It will cover the educational aspects behind the engineering and robotics, and explain how the 3D interface, physical building, and digital learning can be used to help students discover and develop their strengths in a collaborative group setting. It will also explain how KOOV helps and encourages students to learn about and consider more STEAM career paths than what is often initially perceived.

ThoughtSTEM

As San Diego's leader in computer science education, ThoughtSTEM will engage local K-12 students in some of the awesome video games San Diego kids are coding with our instructors. Students will learn how these video games were designed and programmed, and they'll get to see behind-the-scenes at some of the games they can code with our instructors at our summer camps this June-August at UC San Diego, San Diego State, and Cal State San Marcos.

PCI (Project Concern International)

How do women and children in the developing world get their water? They Carry It! Come learn about water projects and PCI's work to empower women and children. Meet women who have lived in places where they have to walk 6 miles a day to get water for their families - and carry a jerry can on your head to see what it is actually like! Photo opportunity provided as well.

MakerPlace Open House!

San Diego’s Premier Do-It-Yourself Workshop is hosting its semi-annual Open House on Saturday, March 9th! Join us from 2-6PM for a showcase of a variety of Maker projects all under one roof, from furniture to jewelry, laser cutting to wood turning, and from youth STEM programs to engineering prototypes. Enjoy Tools, Classes and Community. Free admission and open to the public!

Cox Communications

The Cox IP Packet Racer depicts how packets of information blast through Cox’s Gigablast fiber optic network from one point to the other! Participants will build their own “IP Packets” (similar to wooden derby cars) and race them on Cox’s High Speed Internet network. Participants will be able to decorate their “IP Packets” before racing them down the track. This fun and interactive activity helps kids learn about science and engineering concepts.
