Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA)

In Marine Corps’ operations, electrical energy is indispensable for the functioning of advanced weapons systems and sensitive electronics on ships and during field missions. Our table will demo several "The World's Simplest Motor". Students see how an electric current running through a coiled wire creates a magnetic field. Two magnetic fields, repelling and attracting each other, can be used to convert the electrical energy of the battery into the mechanical energy of a spinning part.

World of Waves, WOW!

The electromagnetic spectrum will be the star of the show as we use demonstrations to illustrate characteristics of light waves such as wavelength, frequency, and amplitude. We will present the ways we use light to understand what's going on inside the 150 M K plasmas we produce in our study of nuclear fusion.

Jacobs Institute for Innovation in Education

STEAM Activities including Origami, Saori Loom Weaving, and Robotics & Coding. Robotics: The students will learn programming robotics and explore coding to move around! Origami Fun: Discover the magic of origami and paper folding! Engage in fun activities to learn how math is actually a part of the art of origami!. Loom Weaving: Come learn about weaving with your very own tiny cardboard loom. So many colors, textures and possibilities! We will do a demonstration with Saori Loom.

SYSTRA IBT

Test your knowledge of bridges as our engineers demonstrate the concepts of bridge engineering using scale models built with K'NEX blocks. Visitors will discover how bridges are designed and built and learn how they, too, can become bridge engineers.

California State University Program for Biotechnology (CSUBIOTECH)

Host a booth to showcase the work of biotechnology in the Cal State University system. CSUBIOTECH provides grants and awards, organizes the annual CSU Biotechnology Symposium, promotes industry-responsive curricular innovations, and serves as a liaison between the CSU and government, regional and biotechnology industry partners, including philanthropic partners.

UC San Diego MRSEC

Materials Research Science & Engineering Center - MRSEC - demonstrations of materials and educational kits - spectrometer, self-assembly based on polarization, quantum dots - nanoparticles that glow, silicon microlens - "turn your cell phone into a microscope" activity,

U.S. Naval Academy

Midshipmen from the United States Naval Academy mentor you through your choice of several hands- on, interactive science and engineering modules for all ages. The diverse subject matter planned includes a range of STEM topics including chemistry, aerodynamics, electricity, logic, and robotics.

Music Notes STEM Hip Hop Concert

Join Music Notes for a high-energy concert promoting a love and appreciation for all things STEAM related through original hip hop songs. LaMar "Mr. Q-U-E" Queen and David "Mr. D" Landix, two math teachers from Los Angeles, CA have written hundreds of educational rap songs and traveled across the country performing at schools and events. Their videos have been viewed over 2,000,000 times on Youtube and over 200,000 students have been in attendance at their shows.
